Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti assures “Mauro Icardi is staying at Inter”, and will renew his contract when the transfer window shuts.
The striker has a €110m release clause in his contract, but it’s only valid for foreign clubs, and only in the first two weeks of July.
That clause can no longer be activated this summer, and the Nerazzurri’s VP says the Argentine will be staying at San Siro.
“Mauro is staying at Inter, he’s very happy with us,” Zanetti told Fox Sports Argentina.
“As soon as the transfer window shuts we’ll negotiate and renew his contract. He’s very happy with us.
“He’s been captain for two years and he behaves like one: he called Lautaro [Martinez], he welcomed all his teammates and he’s the first to explain Inter to new arrivals.
“He’s a great professional.”
A recent stat from Whoscored.com showed that of the 107 players to score 10 or more goals in one of Europe’s top five leagues last season, Icardi had the highest conversion rate of 28.7%. Every 26 times Icardi touched the ball last season he scored, which was almost the best in Europe
