Mauro Icardi’s stand-off with Inter Milan has stretched into another week, with the striker’s wife and agent Wanda Nara insisting he is injured.
Club doctors gave Icardi the all-clear last week as they were unable to identify an issue, however Icardi refused to return to training.
‘The knee problem isn’t an invention,’ said Nara, talking to Tiki Taka (via ). ‘He’s taking care of himself 24 hours a day.’
Icardi missed the game against Rapid Vienna on February 13 and hasn’t played since then. He’s also been stripped of the captaincy.
He didn’t attend the team’s home game against SPAL on Sunday, with Nara saying
‘we stayed at home with our family watching the game. It wasn’t because we were afraid of whistling’.
‘The doctor said that in his view the necessary period for treatment had passed,’ said coach Luciano Spalletti last week. ‘He replied: “No, I still feel pain. I’ll tell you when I feel ready to play.”‘
The Argentine is contracted to Inter until 2021, and Icardi claims he wants to stay, however the rift between the club and player only seems to be growing.
Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has been meeting with Nara in an attempt to smooth over relations.
‘I talk to Marotta more than I do to Mauro right now to avoid any misunderstandings at a time like this,’ said Nara.
‘I can only say it was a positive meeting, like it always is when we face each other to discuss serious matters.
‘Mauro wants to continue his career at Inter. We hope everything will be resolved as soon as possible.’
So far this season Icardi has scored nine goals in 20 matches in Serie A, two goals in two matches in the Coppa Italia, and four goals in six matches in the Champions League.
