Series A Weekend Preview: Juventus Hoping To Continue Derby Dominance

juventus_vs_torinoJuventus are looking to continue their dominance of city rivals Torino on Sunday when they host the latest edition of the derby della Mole in Turin.

Juve, who won 2-0 at Malmo in their midweek Champions League game, go into the clash with a three-point advantage over Roma in Serie A having collected a maximum 15 points at home. Torino have not beaten their local rivals in the league since the 1994-95 campaign and 12 years have passed since they last scored against them.

Torino, who drew 0-0 at home to Club Brugge in Thursday’s Europa League game, have not scored in four of their last five games in all competitions as the Granata have yet to recover from the sales of attacking pair Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci to Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Inter Milan travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma on Sunday evening looking to end the Giallorossi’s perfect record at home. Roma, who drew 1-1 at CSKA Moscow on Tuesday in the Champions League, have won all six of their Serie A games in the capital this season.

They take on an Inter side in good form since the return of Roberto Mancini to the Nerazzurri hotseat. Inter held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw before coming from behind to beat Dnipro 2-1 at home on Thursday to progress to the last 32 of the Europa League.

A goalless draw against Sparta Prague was sufficient to see third-placed Napoli join Inter in the Europa League knockout phase. Napoli face a stern test in Genoa on Monday with rivals Sampdoria unbeaten at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Fifth-placed Genoa have not lost in their last seven league games and take on a Cesena side who have not won since the opening day of the campaign.

Lazio are sixth in the standings and face Chievo in Verona looking to make amends for back-to-back defeats. The Biancoceleste lost 2-1 at Empoli before falling 3-0 at home to Juventus last time out.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella could hand German midfielder Marko Marin his Serie A debut on Sunday at Cagliari. Marin, who joined the Viola on a season-long loan from Chelsea this summer, struggled with injuries at the start of the season. The 25-year-old started and scored in a 2-1 midweek triumph at Guingamp in Europa League action that ensured Fiorentina first place in their group.

AC Milan captain and Italy international Riccardo Montolivo is getting closer to returning to action since fracturing his tibia six months ago in a pre-World Cup friendly. He could feature in Sunday’s home match against Udinese. Milan have not won since October 19.
