Roma drop more points while Inter held

robymancioRoma missed the chance to draw level with Italian Serie A leaders Juventus after being held to a 1-1 draw at Palermo. Paulo Dybala bolstered his growing reputation as a clinical goalscorer by firing i Rosanero ahead inside two minutes and Roma struggled to react until Mattia Destro levelled shortly after half-time.

Francesco Totti was unleashed from the bench with ten minutes remaining, but he could not follow up last weekend’s derby brace against Lazio with another vital goal. The point guides Rudi Garcia’s men to within two of Juve, who will hope to respond by pulling five clear with a home victory over mid-table Hellas Verona on Sunday evening.

Empoli checked Inter Milan’s progress up the table by holding i Nerazzurri to a goalless draw at Stadio Carlo Castellani. The ailing Italian giants have improved under Roberto Mancini, climbing into the top half, but they could not make the jump to sixth place after promoted Empoli took control of proceedings in Tuscany.

Inter were perhaps fortunate to leave with a single point and they had goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to thank for making a series of saves from the likes of Manuel Pucciarelli and Piotr Zielinski.
