Roma Biggest Losers On Match Day 1

With the dust settling on match day 1 of Champions League action, attention turns to the teams that attained less than impressive results. AS Roma leads the pack after losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The Giallorosso are one of the teams that are expected to do well this season considering their pedigree and status as one of the European giants. However, it seems like their woeful start to the season won’t be ending soon after suffering their second consecutive loss.

The Bavarians on the other hand sent out a clear message that their appearance in the final last year was not a fluke and that they are prepared to go one better by winning the title for the 5th time in their 110 year history.

New sensation Thomas Muller continued with his impressive performance scoring what could very be the goal of the tournament. The 21 year old German international has experienced phenomenal success this year with both his club and country.

For Roma fans this is not the end of the road. In fact, on the contrary, it is the beginning. Much like last season, Roma did not have the best to the league. The Romans were close to last in the Serie A table heading into the winter break and few would have given them any chance of  recovering to challenge Inter not only for the scudetto, but also for the Italian Cup.

However, the break was definitely what the team needed as they immediately recovered to take the scudetto race down to the last weekend of action. With the competitiveness of the league having increased exponentially, Roma would be doing themselves a disservice if they fail to quickly stop this run of poor results.

Many still consider Roma as potential title challengers however, with Milan and Juventus bolstering their squads, it remains to be seen whether Ranieri can much up with the heightened competition levels.

Yesterday’s result leaves the Giallorosso last in Group E with 0 points and no goals. Roma’s next match will be on Tuesday the 28th at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome against Cluj. This is a match they must in if they are to progress through to the knockout stages.
