Napoli Stars ‘Hire Bodyguards As They Fear Revenge Attacks’

Aurelio De Laurentiis

Napoli’s first-team stars are in the process of hiring bodyguards as they fear they could be the subject of revenge attacks by their own fans.

Piotr Zielinski and Allan have both been on the receiving end of vandalism with the latter’s house being broken into following the fallout with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Star defender Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly hired a bodyguard to act as security for himself and his family while Lorenzo Insigne’s wife has allegedly fled Naples.

It comes after Napoli’s players refused to take part in a training retreat which was demanded by De Laurentiis after a poor run of form.

Players now believe the club’s ultras could take matters into their own hands after they failed to abide by their owner’s instructions.

De Laurentiis has threatened to deduct up to 25 per cent of his players’ salaries as he looks to fine his stars.

And the controversial owner would reportedly sell his entire squad if given the chance as the club’s civil war rumbles on.

While reports suggest he’d be willing to sell everyone now, the 70-year-old owner is ‘aware not to act on instinct’ and will bide his time on the matter.

According to , Dries Mertens is one of the names that will be allowed to leave the club in January, with Inter Milan keen to take on the wantaway Belgian.

also reported on Sunday that the forward has already agreed to sign with the San Siro outfit on a free transfer next summer, with a two-year deal worth €6m per season on the table.

Napoli are seventh in Serie A after picking up just five wins from their first 12 games.
