If reports doing the rounds are anything to go by then AC Milan will probably be the most active ‘top four’ club in the transfer market this summer. The 17 time Italian champions are in the market looking for a coach, striker and defender to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
After collapsing in the last weeks of the 09/2010 campaign to finish in 3rd place, the Rossoneri unjustly sacked their rookie coach Leonardo who might i say was the major reason why the club managed such a good finish.
Although there is no official word from Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani as to who will succeed Leonardo, former Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri is rumoured to be the club’s main target. Allegri was dismissed from his managerial duties on April 13th this year despite leading Cagliari to a decent 12th place finish.
According to Milan striker Alexandre Pato, Allegri is the best man for the job.
“He [Allegri] produced two great seasons with Cagliari,”.
“I like the work he is known for with young players. We mustn’t forget the great job Leonardo did here at Milan however, and also [Mauro] Tassotti has been a great servant to the club.”
Other Milan targets include Real Madrid’s Mahamadou Diarra, Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, Ajax’s Gregory Van Der Wiel and Borussia Dortmund’s Lucas Barrios.
Diarra would be a good addition to the Milan line-up. The versatile Frenchman who is more comfortable playing in a defensive midfield position is very unlikely to feature in Mourinho’s squad next season. With EPL club Manchester United also showing a keen interest in Diarra, Milan will have to move fast if they want to secure his services.
With Massimo Oddo and Marek Jankulovski leaving the club, Gareth Bale would be a perfect addition to the Rossoneri’s aging defense. The 20 year old left back has a knack for scoring in big matches and Milan will be hoping he can do the same for them against the likes of Inter, Juventus and Roma.
I do not know much about Lucas Barrios and Van Der Wiel however, if Milan can secure the services of both Diarra and Bale, they would definitely be a top contender for the scudetto.
