Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has finally completed his season-long loan to Inter. The loan deal does not include an obligation to buy and Manchester United will pick up €18m of Sanchez’s €23m wages.
Its a deal that has little downside for Inter. The Chile international was not first choice, Conte wanted Dzeko, but Roma were unable to sign a replacement for the striker, and Inter moved on two Plan B.
“I’m happy about his arrival because I believe he’s an important player who makes a difference to his teams,” Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti said.
“Alexis brings qualities which Inter didn’t have up front and will complete our attacking options with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.
“Negotiations with United were difficult but this is part of the transfer window. I hope he has a great season.”
One person who has backed Alexis to be a success at Inter is Pep Guardiola.
The Manchester City manager, who was desperate to bring Sanchez to the Etihad, insists the Chile international should not be made the scapegoat for his disastrous spell at Old Trafford.
And he is convinced Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte will get the best out of him after his loan move to San Siro.
“I know him,” said Guardiola. “We worked together in Barcelona – I have a special affection as a player, of course, but especially as a human being. He’s an incredible, humble guy and a fighter.
“So now he decided to move Italy with one of the greatest teams in Europe with Inter right now, incredible manager with Antonio Conte, and I’m pretty sure they are going to do well.
“Because I think the way Inter plays, it suits him perfectly. Playing close to (Romelu) Lukaku and in this position I think he is going to have a good period in Milan.”
