Lazio is off to the hottest start of any Serie A side this season. The club that has struggled to middle of the pack results in recent years hasn’t landed in the top four since 2006/2007, but so far this year the club has been the biggest surprise of the season and are currently in first place on the Serie A table.
Defense is a big part of the reason why Lazio has done so well and the squad currently has the second strongest defense (statistically speaking) only allowing 5 goals in 7 matches this season. In fact the squad is currently on a 3 match streak of shutouts meaning that they haven’t allowed a single goal in around 300 minutes of league play. Well the bad news for a small market club that is playing brilliantly is that the big powerhouse teams will now desire to poach away the young talent that is providing these great results.
And although the money is nice to receive for the transfer offers, winning now and down the road with the talent you have already acquired should remain a major part of the thought process of any potential deals being made. But if the price tag on the young player is right then you can expect to see them go.
Apparently Lazio defender Stefan Radu is one of these targets by the bigger clubs. The twenty four year old has another two years on his contract with Lazio, but there is reportedly already one offer on the table from Manchester City, who recently signed defender Aleksandar Kolarov from the same club for 16 million euros this summer. Radu joined Lazio from Dinamo Bucharest in 2008 and has also dressed nine times for the Romania national team. He has started every game this season for Lazio and Radu can play multiple positions (center and left back) on the back line as well.
Radu’s agent Victor Becali told adevarul.ro that Mancini has already met the young defender last season at a Euro Cup match and the agent also admitted that the Manchester City coach is close personal friends with his brother and has shown interest in Radu for quite some time.
Becali also recently suggested that Radu might be heading to a bigger Italian team sometime soon. the agent told tuttomercatoweb:
Radu is 24-years-old, last year he played well and this year he’s playing very well. In my opinion he is therefore definitely ready for a big club like Juventus, AC Milan or Inter, but we haven’t talked with them.
