Being an important part in guiding Napoli to get the third place spot in Serie A last season and also doing pretty impressive in previous years, Christian Maggio, is expecting a new contract from his club, surely in a hope that he will earn better than his current salary.
Maggio himself was the one who revealed that wish as he was stating to the media that after the contribution he made so far with the Partenopei, especially the latest success of breaking into Champions League football for next summer, the right back expect an acknowledgment from the Azzurri.
“I’m doing well at Napoli, Firstly we qualified for the Europa League, I went to the World Cup and now we have qualified for the Champions League,” said Maggio to Radio Marte. “I hope that my value is recognised by Napoli with a new contract. My agent is looking into it, but I’m calm about it.”
Playing as a flying right back in a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 system set up by Napoli’s coach, Walter Mazzarri, simply brings up the best in Maggio as he now managed to get a regular spot at Cesare Prandelli’s Italian national team. Acknowledging the coach’s big influence in his career, Maggio also revealed his happiness hearing that Mazzarri will still be in charge of the Partenopei next season, despite there were some problems between the tactician and the team’s owner recently.
“I’m very happy that the Coach remained,” the right back added. “I have a really good relationship with him.”
The player’s wish surely isn’t something difficult to fulfill by Napoli considering with the Champions League football ahead of them, they got the potential to increase their wages capacity, thus making room for Maggio’s request. Considering that the player’s age already reached it’s 29, the Partenopei probably would add only 1-2 year on the new contract and only make a significant improvement on the wage amount.
