Sporting director Igli Tare has claimed Lazio “deserve” their position in Serie A, but admitted “it’s too early” to talk about the Scudetto.
The Biancocelesti are currently third in the League, two points behind Inter Milan with a game in hand, and are on an unbeaten run of 16 games in Serie A.
The sporting director has encouraged the players to keep “the positive energy” around the place, but admitted they are sticking to their main objective from the start of the season.
“Winning and convincing is important, but it’s premature to talk about bigger things than Champions League qualification,” Tare told Tiki Taka. “It’s too early to talk about the Scudetto. The results are pointing in that direction, but we know from experience that it might change very quickly.
“We deserve to be in the position we are in and we have felt the enthusiasm during the recent weeks. This positive energy counts so much, and we must do well to keep it around.”
Tare continued to praise Simone Inzaghi for his work at the Olimpico and said their initial target of Champions League football proves that the Biancocelesti already felt confident in August.
“We are living the days with great serenity,” Tare said. “We have targeted a place in the Champions League at the start of the season.
“If you have this target, you obviously think that you have a strong team. There are many components that are going in the right direction right now.
“The extraordinary work of Inzaghi and his staff, the crazy atmosphere in the dressing room, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. There are 17 games left of the championship and anything can happen.”
