Juventus still continue their fine form in the last few matches by snatching an important victory over another top team, Lazio, in this weekend Serie A, resulting in the Zebra confirming the top spot for at least another week.
Antonio Conte’s team could even widen the gap up front, should they also win the game in hand they have against Napoli, which is set to be played on this upcoming Tuesday in Naples.
The match-up between Lazio and Juventus were really fun and joyful, but it was the away team that secured the victory which wasn’t being earned easily as the home team can really consider themselves unlucky at times. Simone Pepe grabbed the only goal in the game after slotting home Alessandro Matri’s low cross, which came from a counter attack after the home team were very close into scoring themselves few minutes later.
Both teams created chances after chances, but notably Juventus’ players, who are high on confidence because of the good results they’re having in this start of the season, was lot smarter in managing the ball possession. After a very tiring first period, Lazio looked to be dominating the early part of the second period, but a combination of poor finishing and bad luck simply ruled the Bianconeri’s chance in drawing by playing a really tight defensive line in front of Gianluigi Buffon, who played brilliantly on that game.
Pepe’s goal arrived midway in the first half as Vucinic lead Juventus’ counter attack by sending a ball into Matri’s path and without any special marking the striker released a low cross which easily tapped in by the former Udinese winger. The away team had several chances in equalizing, mainly throught their Brazilian star, Hernanes, who was probably a little bit greedy at times as he had one shot hitting Buffon’s post early in the second period.
Lazio’s impatient build up cost them heavily as in the final 10 minutes, it was they who became more tired than the Turin giant, allowing Conte’s men finishing the game much more easier as Edy Reja’s team can’t provide constant pressure anymore. This important victory means Juve kept their fine trend in beating the top teams in this early part of the season, but difficult task is coming ahead of them as the likes of Napoli, Roma and Udinese are waiting around the corner.
Meanwhile, a day before Juventus’ victory, Udinese got themselves a precious three points after beating As Roma 2-0 with goals from Antonio Di Natale and also Mauricio Isla. That victory gave them a temporary lead in the table just 24 hours before Juve got that back again with their success in stealing three points from Lazio at Olympico on Saturday.
