Juventus and Real Madrid battle to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

With the Premier League summer transfer window shut, that leaves just Real Madrid and Juventus in a race to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio.

According to Tuttosport, the two football giants are the only ones left in the hunt for the 23-year-old midfielder who is nicknamed the ‘Serbian Zidane’.

Milinkovic-Savic has played 94 times for Lazio since joining in 2015 and he scored 12 goals in 35 Serie A appearances last season as they finished fifth, just missing out on a Champions League place.

Those 12 goals were the most by any midfielder in Serie A last season.

After this, he then went on to play in all three of Serbia’s games at the World Cup in Russia this summer.

He has been the subject of much speculation with the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan also interested in him.

The knock on SMS is that he doesn’t perform against the big teams. Last season against Juventus, Napoli, Roma, Inter and Milan he had 0 goal and 0 assist in 13 matches.

Then during this summer he played in all three of Serbia’s games at the World Cup in Russia but was largely ineffective.

Despite that, Lazio are holding out for around €120m for the midfielder.

Pjanic, who only recently signed a five-year contract with Juventus, has already had approaches from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City this summer and could feature in a possible swap deal.

Meanwhile, Marcelo is rumoured to have been linked with a move from the Bernabeu to Juventus and should Real Madrid win the battle could be included in negotiations.

Cristiano Ronaldo, his team-mate for many successful trophy-winning years, made a £100million move to Turin earlier this summer
