He is one of the hottest young strikers in world football, and Inter Milan have beat them all to the signing of Racing Club striker Lautaro Martinez.
Speaking to La Radio de Linea on Wednesday, Martinez’s agent Beto Yaque announced that Inter would look to pair him with another striker – without namechecking Mauro Icardi – and how the Nerazzurri ‘burned’ Borussia Dortmund.
“He’ll have an €111m release clause with Inter, and they’ll build their team around him,” revealed the representative.
“That’s what the Inter executives told us. The Coach would like to play with two strikers, and one of them will be Lautaro.
“It’s all done with Inter. We knew about Borussia’s interest and met them in Dortmund months ago.
“It surprised us that they came back in for him because they also went to Argentina to see him and asked us to wait, but we warned them so many teams wanted Lautaro, including Inter, who burned everyone else.
“It’s not a question of money. Lautaro’s going to Inter for sporting reasons. They’re counting on us and they view him as an important signing.
“He’s signed a pre-contract with them and he’ll go to Milan in June.”
It’s a big statement of intent from Inter to sign Martinez for a reported €24m. The Nerazzurri missed out on Gabriel Jesus two years ago, signing Gabigol instead, but they look to have corrected this mistake with this signing.
It is interesting that Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is willing to change from his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-4-2 formation with Martinez alongside Inter talisman Mauro Icardi. Can the two young Argentina stars play together? I guess we will find out in a couple of months!
