Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin will become the highest paid player at Inter Milan when he signs for the club this summer, according to a report from Italian newspaper La Gazetta dello Sport this weekend.
The 33-year-old Godin has been widely reported to be heading for the exit door after over a decade of service with Los Rojiblancos, with the Serie A side set to be his destination ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
According to the report, the Uruguayan international will sign a three year deal at the San Siro, with a weekly wage of around €128,000 per week (6.75m euros per season), an increase on his current wages in the Spanish capital, who only offered the defender a one year extension to his expiring deal.
Godin solidifies an Inter back line that already includes Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij, signed from Lazio when his contract expired last summer, and rising star 24-year-old Milan Škriniar.
After being in Financial Fair Play purgatory in recent years, Inter are expected to spend big this season, if they can hold onto that top four place over the last weeks of the season.
