Being distracted by the transfer rumors regarding Antonio Cassano’s arrival, Ac Milan, failed to showcase their authority in the big showdown match in Serie A against As Roma this weekend as their wastefulness cost them dearly once again.
Despite controlling the match overally, Rossoneri’s shocking display in front of the goal left question marks that should be answered right after the winter break as their former striker Marco Borriello scored a rather lucky goal that break the Milanisti’s heart.
Playing at San Siro, Milan started the game in a comanding fashion as Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic keeps on creating chances after chances, while Andrea Pirlo looked very commanding in the midle of the pitch. After missing few good chances, bad luck seems to start for the Rossoneri as Pirlo suddenly had to be taken of the field and replaced by veteran, Clarence Seedorf. The absence of the Italian international was undoubtly felt by the team as they started to have problems in spreading passes and controlling the tempo of the game.
Despite getting a little bit troubled with Pirlo’s injury, the Rossoneri should actually finish the first half at least a goal ahead as Ibrahimovic once again missed out on a great goal scoring opportunity as he failed to beat Roma’s keeper, Doni, in a one on one situation. The glorious miss seemed to haunt Ibra for the rest of the match as the striker just doesn’t look like his usual self, making the job gets harder for his teammates.
Starting the half in a 0-0 scoreline, the Rossoneri still started the match better but once again there’s just a void of loss with Pirlo’s absence as Seedorf failed to connect the team the way the Italian international usually does. Just as Milan started to get frustated, Roma starting to get their foot on the game as they manage to create some scares for the fashion capital side’s defense which finally resulted in a rather lucky goal by Borriello. Jeremy Menez burst pass Luca Antonini and cut back a vicious low cross that was miss cleared by Igazio Abate, who kick the ball into his former teammates’ shin.
The goal brought the life again to the game as Milan piling up the pressure but once again their wastefulness gets them nowhere as Ibrahimovic once again missed out a wonderful chance to equalize as he blaze his shot away from the goal. Ronaldinho and Massimo Ambrosini also catch Ibra’s wastefulness as they also went on to miss couple of excellent goal scoring oppurtunities that should’ve help their team getting at least a point from the game.
The defeat gives another badmouth for the Rossoneri as it is their second defeat in a “big game” while they were hosting at San Siro, the odd thing is Milan actually managed to win another important game against Inter when they act as the away side. Although the defeat won’t take the fashion capital side’s place from the top of the table, their 6 points lead on the table cut be cut into just 3 before the winter break by the likes of Juventus, Lazio and Napoli that will play on Sunday.
