After a disappointing 2015/16 season, Jeremy Menez has officially left AC Milan to join French side Bordeaux on a free transfer. Menez’s move will see Milan get rid of his €2.5 million yearly salary.
The 29-year-old’s departure comes as no surprise after he left the Rossoneri’s pre-season tour of the United States. While the club stated it was due to a muscular problem, in reality it was to finalize a deal with Les Girondins.
The decision to let the Frenchman leave for no transfer fee may come as a surprise to many given he was the Rossoneri’s top scorer in 2014/15 under Filippo Inzaghi, scoring 16 times in 33 Serie A matches.
However his second season in Milan was anything but a success, as he was forced to sit on the sidelines for the early part of the campaign after back surgery in the summer.
He returned in February, but could only manage two goals in 10 appearances in what would prove to be his final season in Italy, as he now looks to rebuild his career in France.
