Balotelli given a three-match ban

BalotelliAC Milan striker Mario Balotelli has been suspended for three matches after his red card in the 2-1 victory over Napoli on the weekend.

A statement on the AC Milan web site said:

Mario Balotelli has received a three-match ban from the Lega Calcio. The striker received a one-game ban for two yellow cards against Napoli and two further matches for inappropriate language towards the referee after receiving the red card.

This is huge blow for the injury ravaged Milan side. Balotelli will now miss the Serie A matches against Bologna, Sampdoria and, most crucially, champions Juventus.

Balotelli however will be eligible for Milan’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Ajax next Tuesday, 1 October.
