Bad Week For Serie A In Europe

Champions League trophyChampions League Matchday two will not go as one of Serie’a finest moments. Napoli were well beaten Arsenal, AC Milna needed a late penalty to get a point in Holland while Juventus drew again and are in real danger of not qualifying for the knockout stages.

Napoli v Arsenal
Missing Higuain, Napoli’s European night fell apart: two goals in the first 15 minutes sank the Partenopei, who were too docile in the first half and not focused enough in the second half.

Napoli had no answer for Ozil put in a stellar performance (scoring one and setting up the other) as did Ramsey, who was absolutely unstoppable all game. Good goalkeeping from Reina denied Arsenal a third

Ajax v AC Milan
This was a game that did not spring to life until the final minutes when Ajax took the lead in the 90th minute through Denswil before Mario used all his guile to win and convert a penalty seconds before the final whistle to silence the Dutch fans.

Milan are second in the group behind Barcelona and are on the path to qualify for the knockout stages despite not playing well in either Champions League game so far. Allegri knows that his side will have to play much better in the upcoming doubleheader against Barca.

Juventus v Galatasary
A terrible error by Bonucci allowed Drogba in to score. The Bianconeri struggled to create chances but took the lead in the second half through Vidal (penalty) and Quagliarella before Bulut equalised. The Bianconeri had another clear penalty appeal turned down when the score was 0-0

Juve fans will point out that last season Juventus started their Champions League campaign with two draws also and still managed to get through to the knock-out stages. However with Real Madrid running away from the rest of the group, it is looking more and more likely that Juve will have to go to Turkey and get a result if they are to progress this year.
