All Napoli wants for X-mas is a tougher defense especially in road matches. The ninth place squad heading into last weekend has been one of worst defensive units in the league so far this year. In fact only two other teams possess a worse defense then Napoli does. Genoa is currently one spot ahead of the squad and Siena who resides in last place on the league table. So in other words Napoli needs to tighten up the defensive side of the ball.
Napoli has a fairly productive offense led by Quagliarella and Hamsik, but their defense has been laughably bad so far this season. At home the defense has only allowed seven goals this season, but on the road the defense has been pathetic allowing seventeen goals so far on the year. Napoli has the potential to finish the year in the top six squads, but they most prove that they are not a pushover in away matches.
All Parma wants for X-mas is to be considered the best newboys in any major league. And right now the surprising fourth place squad has done exactly that! Last year’s number two team in Serie B has turned heads all season by not only remaining in the hunt for a top four spot, but leading a pack that includes Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Genoa, and Roma. If Parma is able to hold off these powerhouse squads then they not only deserve a top four spot, they deserve a trophy case full of post-season awards.
And how does a low budget bunch of nobodies get it done? Defense. They say it wins championships and it is hard to argue against this theory so far this year. Parma has been incredible at home this season and are currently 5-1-1. Even more impressive the squad has only given up four goals in those matches so far this season. And that is the best result in the league.
