Maurizio Sarri is desperate for options up front, a plight reinforced by Chelsea’s 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat by Tottenham on Tuesday night, and a deal to take Higuain for the rest of the season is reported to be close.
AC Milan are willing to let Higuain end his loan spell from Juve after only eight months, according to Marca.
However, Leonardo has dismissed the move and has challenged the Argentine to improve at the San Siro.
‘He has to make a decision and take on his share of the responsibility,’ Leonardo said at a press conference on Tuesday. ‘Not this continual, “yes, no, I’m not sure”.
‘He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work.
‘There’s no point following rumours and gossip. He is here right now. Seeing as he is here, he needs to get down and actually do something for this team.
‘A goal can change things, but if he is to continue here, he needs to take on responsibility.’
Higuain played under Sarri at Napoli in 2015-16, and enjoyed the most productive season of his career with 38 goals in 42 games.
His arrival would likely signal the departure from Chelsea of Alvaro Morata, with Sevilla keen on bringing the misfiring striker back to Spain.
