Transfers Battles

The year has truly had its shares of cheers and jeers and to some players there could not be any better news than that of a transfer. Goran Pandev the disgraced Lazio striker finally received his wish of leaving the Rome based club when the Lega Calcio’s arbitration board  ordered Lazio to release  him as a free transfer in the January transfer window.

Pandev who has not had any playing time this season, will now receive 160,000 Euros in damages from Lazio. It is still unclear what his next move will be but with Juventus and Tottonham showing an interest in the Macedonian international, Pandev can rest assured that his services will definitely be required by top managers in Europe.

Pandev was also heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan but talks have however hit a stalemate. Moreover, Inter president Massimo Moratti has refused to finance any deals to acquire new players this winter. Pandev’s worst mistake would be to join arch rivals AS Roma.

Roma are indeed going all out this winter to acquire some big names and their coach Claudio Ranieri seems to be building “something spectacular” at the Stadio Olimpico. Luca Toni who was again linked with a move to Inter Milan is  now in deep talks with Roma over a possible move in January. The 32 year old Italy international is not happy in Germany and his relationship with Bayern Munich coach Luis Van Gaal is not cordial to the least.

He was another of Inter’s prospects but it seems he will now be heading to Rome.  Roma are now up to 4th in the league after a disastrous  start to the season and with another half of the season yet to be played, there is no telling just where this momentum will take them.

Some transfers news that captured my attention was Botafogo’s bid for Ronaldinho. The Brazilian club insist that a deal to acquire the Brazilian star has been officially presented to Dinho’s agent and that Roberto Assis (who also happens to be Ronaldinho’s brother) is happy with it. I personally think that that is just a publicity stunt. There is no way Ronnie will leave Milan not with the World Cup approaching.

Some of the transfer rumours have been just that- rumours! However, we will  still have to wait and see which clubs make the most of this golden opportunity to strengthen their squads.
