I have stated this several times over the last few months, but Diego Milito may have been the best transfer made by any team in any major league this most recent transfer window. And the funny thing is that Milito has still not received the worldwide attention that he most definitely deserves.
During a time when Kaka was on everybody’s mind (not poop but the player), the tall Argentine forward slipped under the radar and moved over to powerhouse Inter from Genoa. The move was overlooked due to the transfer deal to acquire Samuel Eto’o for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And at the time I can understand why.
Ibs was the best Serie A striker for many years and the Golden Boot winner last season. Eto’o was coming off of a fantastic La Liga season that saw Barcelona win the first ever Spanish treble plus the guy has a resume that would make just about any other footballer in the world jealous. So at the time, Milito was considered a nice afterthought to the Eto’o deal. Well think again.
Milito may not have the international numbers that many other star players do, but the guy can flat out score goals and lead his club on the pitch. Last year, Milito’s first in Italy, he scored 24 goals and nearly led the entire league in that statistic. Now that Zlatan is gone and Milito is playing for his old team…. look out. I wouldn’t be surprised if Milito reaches one hundred Serie A goals in less then four seasons.
