Inter Under Pressure To Win

After wins from both AC Milan and AS Roma on Tuesday, defending champs Inter Milan will be under pressure on Wednesday night when they host FC Twente at the San Siro.

Inter come into this match on the back of 2 successive defeats in the league with their last Group A fixture ending in an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs.

Exuding confidence ahead of tonight’s fixture, defenders Stankovic and Zanetti were positive that Inter’s woes would end when they beat Twente. Inter are in a precarious position. they are second in Group A level on 7 points with Tottenham and just 2 points ahead of Twente.

A loss tonight and Inter’s hopes of progressing through to the knock stage will be significantly lowered. Twente on the other will be motivated by the fact that Inter’s losing streak will have greatly dented their confidence especially after their 2 year unbeaten home record was shattered by Milan a fortnight ago.

Straight talking Benitez has maintained that his side are united and ready to face Twente. With the absence of top scorer Samuel Eto’o who is serving a 3 match ban for head butting Chievo defender Cesar, the Nerazzurri will have to look elsewhere for their goals.

“Everything depends on us. We have played many good games, others less so, this one is special, if we win we are through.

“The team is united and we want to win, just like all the others on this level.

“I have been through similar situations in the past. We can still win things. We have faith.” Benitez said these words to reporters during  a pre-match press conference.

Speaking separately,Inter defender and captain Javier Zanetti was quick to point out that Twente will be a tough opponent. Zanetti also tactfully evaded the question concerning Benitez’s future.

“We know that it will not be easy, but we want to qualify.

“I think no one is thinking about this. Everyone just wants to do well and improve, and we will,” he said.
