Garcia: Juve game a must-win

Rudi-Garcia-Roma2Roma coach Rudi Garcia is confident his team can upset defending champions Juventus when the top two sides in Serie A square off at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday.

I Giallorossi are nine points adrift of Juve in the Scudetto race and must win Monday’s game to have a realistic chance of competing for the title. Roma go into the encounter after Thursday’s 2-1 triumph at Feyenoord, a result that allowed them to progress to the UEFA Europa League last 16.

Gervinho scored the winner for Roma on the hour mark as Garcia’s side advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

“We are satisfied with our performance in Rotterdam,” Garcia told his club’s official website. “But we need to find continuity.

“We have shown against Feyenoord that we haven’t forgotten how to play. We need to remain on this path. We have two days less than Juve to prepare for Monday’s game but I’m confident. There is a game against Juventus that we must win.”

Roma are unbeaten in the league at the Stadio Olimpico this season. Juventus beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on Tuesday in their UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg.

The Turin giants travel to Rome without playmaker Andrea Pirlo, who sustained a calf injury in midweek. Roma are just one of five Italian teams to qualify for the next round of the Europa League.
