Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic has been handed a four-match ban for violent conduct. Savic was sent off in the closing stages of his team’s shock 1-0 defeat at strugglers Parma on Tuesday for elbowing forward Antonio Cassano in an off-the-ball incident.
A statement from the Lega Serie A read:
“In the 40th minute of the second half, Savic elbowed a rival player in the face.”
Savic’s absence is a huge setback for Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella, with the Montenegro international having started in all 17 league games for La Viola this season, scoring two goals and setting up another.
To complicate matters for Montella, Argentinian defender Gonzalo Rodriguez will also miss this weekend’s encounter against Palermo as he must serve a one-match ban after also being sent off at Parma.
Fiorentina, who will face Tottenham in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League, have won just one of their last four Serie A games and are ninth in the standings.
