Disappointing AC Milan Slip Up Again

AC MilanAc Milan lead at the top of Serie A are under a big thread as their current five points lead cut be cut into just two by their rival, Inter Milan, this Sunday after the Rossoneri slipped again this weekend.

Playing against a struggling side, Palermo, Milan looked to lose a bit of their spirit as the Red and Black squad played without their talismanic striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was suspended after making a clumsy action towards a Bari player last weekend.

Starting the match with the eagerness to temporarily extend their gap at the top into 7 points, Milan were a little bit sluggish in defending as after just 10 minutes, the conceded a goal from Goian’s header which came from a careless defending from Mark Van Bommel and Alessandro Nesta. The two Milan players simply stopped playing expecting an offside decision as Goian pounce from a corner and easily beaten Christian Abbiati on the Rossoneri’s goal.

The Goal somehow gave an optimism in the Palermo players as Milan keep having trouble in taking some of their chances in front of goal with Antonio Cassano missing few good chances, while Alexandre Pato keeps having problem in beating the home team’s defenders. Making the league leader much more frustrated, the Sicilian team somehow managed to trouble the Rossoneri defenders through their counter attack.

Ending the half with one goal behind, Milan tried to step up the pressure a bit by throwing in Kevin Prince Boateng into the mix, replacing the off form Van Bommel. Shortly after Boateng’s entrance, the Rossoneri throw in another dice but this time it was a little bit forced one since Robinho came in to replace the injured Pato, who really had another night to forget as he didn’t get many goal scoring chances in the game.

The entrance of Boateng and Robinho gave a bit of spark for the Rossoneri, but the absence of a true physical presence in the box seemed to make things a bit easy for Palermo defense despite Robinho, Cassano, Flamini and Gattuso did forced some wonderful saves from Salvatore Sirigu. In the other end, the home team that were already content with defending their lead did had some chances deep into the game after the away team put many players up front searching for the equalizer.

Failing to convert some of their chances, Milan once again have to drop a significant point in the lead letting Inter a strong shout on cutting the gap at the top once again. Should the Nerazzurri does manage to take away three points from their neighbors’ lead, the upcoming Derby will definitely be the most decisive game that could decide the Serie A title, although Napoli may also join the parade once again. One way or another, this year’s Serie A looked very tight indeed and the Scudetto race seemed to get more interesting in April.
