Juventus has added a second date to its upcoming U.S. pre-season tour and they will meet legendary Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon at BMO Field in Toronto on July 23 (7 pm ET kickoff).

Juventus had previously announced that they will meet Mexican side on July 26 at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y.,

Sporting Clube de Portugal, meanwhile, have won 18 national championship titles and 15 national cups, while also appearing in UEFA Champions League matches 17 times, and in eight UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup matches. They’re led by forward Hélder Postiga, who has 40 caps with the Portuguese national team, and central defender and captain Daniel Carriço.

It was a little surprising that with all the big names touring the U.S. this summer, that no Italian were involved. Well that changed with the news that Juventus, the 27-time Italian champion, will play three friendlies in America in late July.

Only one of the three games has been formally announced and it is a good one. Juventus will take on Mexican team Club America on July 26 at Citi Field, the home of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets. Buy Juventus v Club America Tickets

Juventus will be conducting its preseason training out of Philadelphia from July 19 to August 1. The other two opponents for Juventus have not been announced yet, but I think it is safe to say that those games will take place on the east coast.

The tour will allow Juve’s newly hired manager Antonio Conte to familiarize himself with a squad that finished a disappointing seventh in Serie A last season.

But with a squad full of veterans like Alessandro del Piero, Gianlugi Buffon, Fabio Grosso, Luca Toni and Vincenzo Iaquinta, Conte and Juve fans are hoping that this season “The Old Lady” will once again be challenging for honors in Italy.

Having a rather difficult season with plenty of injuries troubling him, Fiorentina’s Gaetano D’Agostino’s future at the club looks a bit uncertain since he only managed 12 starts this season and with his co-ownership status with Udinese, there’s always a chance that he might return to Friuli.

However, according to D’agostino’s agent, Paolo Rodella, stated that his client is much more keen on continuing his adventure with the Viola next season instead of returning with the Bianconeri.

Rodella added that he and his client are planning to talk with Fiorentina so the would have a clear idea on what the Viola team think of D’Agostino’s future in Firenze next season. Although the former As Roma youth player is much more keen in staying with Fiorentina next season, he won’t really mind in accepting any decision that both clubs made since it would also be useless to stay in a team that doesn’t need his service.

“We’re waiting to talk with Fiorentina. Once we have then we will draw some conclusions. The co-ownership deal is an open one, but Gaetano has made it very clear that he wants to remain here. He wants to live in Florence and he’s made some investments here too. He’ll come back to Florence once his playing career is over. Let’s see what the club’s intentions are,” Rodella said.

Reports from Italy suggested that Fiorentina and Udinese will held a meeting soon to discuss D’Agostino’s future, and the chance for the midfielder to stay at Firenze is actually pretty strong especially if the Viola do release Ricardo Montolivo in the next summer transfer market. Without a strong financial power and also a spot in European football it would definitely be hard for Fiorentina to attack lots of quality players, so losing both Montolivo and D’Agostino in the summer would be a bad choice for them.

D’Agostino himself sparked many eyes during his time with Udinese as plenty big clubs reportedly eying to buy him before Fiorentina becomes the lucky one that grab the talented midfielder with a co-ownership deal. Unfortunately, this season he didn’t live up to his expectation as just yet simply because the player has been troubled with plenty injuries that pretty much puts him more in the sideline rather than performing on the pitch.

I wrote earlier that the Real Madrid v LA Galaxy game replaces the Galaxy v Inter Milan game for that same day. But it did not take Inter Milan long to find another opponent for its North American tour announcing that they will play Panathinaikos at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Tuesday August 3rd, 2010 at 8:00 PM. The game is being billed as at Clash of Champions as Inter are the 2010 Champions League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia winners while Panathinaikos won the 2010 Greek Super League and Greek Cup.

May will be a great month for soccer fans in the windy city. Last week we announced that Chicago will host the Sister Cities International Cup involving the Chicago Fire Welcome Legia Warsaw, Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star Belgrade.

Noe we hear that the Fire will host host Italian giants AC Milan on Sunday, May 30. The match will be the second between the two clubs. Milan won the first meeting, defeating the Fire 3-1 at Soldier Field in 2005.

“As one of the world’s most storied clubs, A.C. Milan will guarantee an exciting, passionate match for fans of the Fire and the world’s game in their own backyard at Toyota Park,” Fire President Dave Greeley said in a release. “It allows us to showcase Chicago as the world-class city it is and our supporters as the best in MLS.”

AC Milan officials said they are committed to fielding all of their star players who are not participating in World Cup duties, meaning such global stars as Ronaldinho, Clarence Seedorf, and Filippo Inzaghi could be in the Rossoneri side. 

Juventus got the break they so dearly needed when they beat Parma 2-1 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini yesterday. However, don’t let the score line fool you. The Bianconeri needed an own goal to help them bag all the 3 points.

Juve were first on the score sheet when Hasan Salhimidzic headed the visitors ahead in the 3rd minute. The hosts responded in the 25th minute when Nicola Amoruso a former Juve man equalised.

This was Juve’s second win in seven league games and it shows just how bad their form has dipped since the beginning of the season. A39 minute own goal from Paolo Castellini saved Ciro Ferrara the blushes and it will at least help to deflect the negative attention he has been receiving lately. The matches don’t get any easier because just two weeks away on the 24th of this month, Juventus host Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.

This fire-cracker of a match will decide who among these two teams will give league leaders Inter a run for their money. Juventus may have gotten the result but if the statistics are anything to go by then Parma were far more effective. The hosts had more shots 13 compared to Juve’s 9. They had 57% of the possession compared to Juve’s 43% and they had twice as many corners as the visitors.

Ferrara should know that this is not a result he can pin his hopes on. The club have already made their intentions clear by actively pursuing his replacement. If Juve decide to finish the season with Ferrara still at the helm then you can be sure that they won’t be anywhere near the top four. Juve should put their fans out of their misery and show Ferrara the door. That to me is the best way to contain this problem from further deterioration.
