Serie A Clubs Struggling In Europe Due To Low Wages Says Inter’s Mazzarri

Serie A’s failure to have a single representative in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this season is down to the level of wages paid out by Italian clubs, according to Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri.

AC Milan’s 5-1 aggregate humbling in their last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid, coupled with both Juventus and Napoli falling at the group stages this term, means there will be no side from Italy’s top flight in the last eight of the competition for the first time in five years.

Inter, Milan And Roma Heading To USA For Preseason Tournament

icclogoAC Milan, Inter and Roma have been confirmed as participating teams in next summer’s preseason tournament, the International Champions Cup.

In the second edition of the friendly competition, the three Italian teams will pit their wits against Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Olympiacos and Liverpool.

Split into two groups, Milan will face up to Olympiacos, Man City and Liverpool, whilst Roma and Inter will meet each other and also Real Madrid and Man United. Games will be played over July 24-August 4 across 11 cities in the United States

Milan Fire Massimiliano Allegri

allegriIn a bit of a surprise struggling Serie A giants AC Milan sacked coach Massimiliano Allegri this morning, a day after a 4-3 league defeat to league newcomers Sassuolo.

It has been a disappointing season the Mila, who are currently 11th in Serie A. Mian are closer to the relegation zone than the European spots and are a massive 30 points behind leaders Juventus and 20 points behind Napoli for the third and last qualifying spot for the UEFA Champions League.

With Mario Balotelli watching from the bench as Alessandro Matri spearheaded the attack in Massimiliano Allegri’s preferred 4-3-2-1 formation, Milan picked up only their second win in their past ten games.

Kaka reached the 100 goal milestone when he collected a pass deep on the left of the area to turn and beat Andrea Consigli with an angled strike at the keeper’s far post. Matri made way for Balotelli just before the hour mark and the Italy striker played a role in Kaka’s second, holding off defender Giulio Migliaccio deep on the right to cross for Robinho.

Massimiliano Allegri To Leave AC Milan At End Of Season

allegriAC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has jumped before he was pushed, announcing that he will step down as AC Milan at the end of the season.

The pressure has been building on the Milan coach, who led the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in 2011. But this year has been a disaster in the red side of Milan, with Allegri’s side currently 13th in the Serie A table, 17 points outside the Champions League places and 27 behind league leaders Juventus.

Allegri has preempted any notion that he will be fired by saying that his time as Milan boss is coming to an end.

Stephan El Shaarawy out for up to 10 weeks

AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy will be out of action for up to 10 weeks after undergoing foot surgery on Saturday.

It is a big blow for the Little Pharaoh, who has barely played this season due to a series of injury problems.

He had already been out of action for a couple of months with a fractured metatarsal in his right foot and it is this injury that failed to heal effectively.

Specialists advised surgery in Portugal to stabilise the fourth metatarsal in the right foot, taking some of the pressure off the area with the stress fracture.

Roma And Milan Share The Points

Francesco Totti ended a two-month injury absence for Roma but had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw away to Milan, who had Sulley Muntari to thank for a late leveller at the San Siro.

Roma travelled to struggling Milan looking to close the gap on leaders Juventus to three points after they had opened up a six-point gap with an eighth consecutive win on Sunday.

But despite bossing Milan in almost every department, Roma had to settle for their fifth draw in six matches to remain second, five points behind.

Milan Get Atletico Madrid In Champions League

Not a bad draw for AC Milan in the Champions League today as they have been drawn against Spanish side Atletico Madrid, at least that is the opinion of Milan director Umberto Gandini.

As a number two seed Milan faced the possibility of being paired with Real Madrid, PSG or Bayern Munich, so compared to them, Atletico Madrid is not a bad draw.

“Atletico are a very strong side who play great football under Diego Simeone,” Gandini commented on Monday.

“They are very strong in attack, but it could be even worse for us considering the sides we could have picked.

Berlusconi Blames Himself For Milan’s Poor Start To Season

AC Milan's dressing areaAC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi believes that AC Milan have made such a spluttering start to the season because he has not played an active a role in the running of the club this season.

After Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Livorno, the Rossoneri are in ninth place in Serie A, a massive 22 points behind leaders Juventus and more importantly, 14 points out of the last Champions League places.

As a result Berlusconi has pledged to spend more time at the San Siro in order to help Massimiliano Allegri’s side through this rough patch.

Cassano downs Napoli, Milan held by Genoa

Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano scored a late winner for Parma to put a dent in Napoli’s title hopes, while at the San Siro ten-man Genoa held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw.

Napoli remain in third but their third defeat of the campaign, and second consecutively following a 3-0 reverse at Juventus a fortnight ago, has given leaders Roma and second-placed Juventus an unexpected title boost.

Ahead of Sunday’s fixtures Roma, who host Cagliari late on Sunday, hold a one-point lead over champions Juventus who can stretch their lead over Napoli to six points away to Livorno earlier on Sunday and possibly go top of the league.
