AC Milan

Wayne RooneyManchester United hammered AC Milan 4-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Leading 3-2 after the first leg, Man Utd tightened their grip on the tie when Wayne Rooney scored again. With the goal Rooney became on the second player in history to score in both legs of a European tie against Milan.

Any hopes that Milan had of getting back in the game were killed a minute into the second half when Rooney ran onto a brilliant ball from Nani to score his 30th goal of the season and knock Milan out of the Champions League.

7 time European champions AC Milan have an uphill task tonight when they face a very in form Manchester United at the Old Trafford. United who won the first leg of this match 3-2 at the San Siro will be hoping that leading scorer Wayne Rooney will be available to help deliver them from Milan’s noose.

Both these teams have met 4 times with Milan emerging victorious on all occasions. This is what makes this tie all the more exciting. United will want to break the curse that follows them whenever they meet Milan. The city of Manchester will welcome back one of their most famous players ever. David Beckham will for the first time in 7 years grace the turf that propelled him to international stardom.

Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho Gaucho has taken the responsibility of steering his Milan side to an important victory in their upcoming Champions League fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford this Wednesday.

The Rossoneri take a 3-2 deficit to the Theatre of Dreams and they are hoping that their pedigree in Europe’s prestigious club tournament will see them through to the quarter finals.

In the past Milan have been United’s obtacle to European success at least when they have met at this stage. The last time these two teams met was back in 2007 and although they lost by a similar 3-2 goal margin, Kaka gave one of his best performances ever in a Milan shirt.

AC Milan’s 3-1 victory over Atalanta was overshadowed by striker Alexander Pato’s injury. The Brazil international came off 10 minutes from the end after clutching his thigh in what looked like a hamstring injury. This is terrible news for Leonardo as he will need all his troops when Milan travel to Manchester for their return Champion’s League fixture against United.

Pato scored a brace to help his team stay in hot pursuit of league leaders and cross town neighbours Inter Milan in the race for the scudetto.

Pato Seals Win For Milan

AC Milan moved up to 2nd in the Serie A after beating Fiorentina 2-1 at the Artemio Franchi stadium last night. Milan are now just 4 points behind league leaders and city rivals Inter who also beat their European opponents Chelsea by a similar goal margin at the San Siro in the first leg of the Champions league knockout stage yesterday.

Milan went down in the 14th minute when their former striker Alberto Gilardino tapped in the ball after Milan’s defense failed to clear a Stefan Jovetic pass. It seemed as though the Rossoneri were headed for another defeat until Leonardo brought on Huntelaar for Gattuso with 14 minutes left on the clock and the Dutchman  responded by scoring Milan’s equaliser after a neat one- two with Ronaldinho.

Wayne RooneyWayne Rooney scored twice as Manchester United recovered from an early Ronaldinho to put Man United in the drivers seat of this Champions League tie.

But this was a game that Milan could easily have won. Between Ronaldinho’s goal and Rooney’s equalizer, Milan missed at least three really good chances that if they had taken could have ended this tie before half time.

United To Face Milan

7 time European champions AC Milan welcome 3 time Champions Manchester Untied to the San Siro today in one of the most anticipated matches in the knockout stages of the Uefa Champions League.

If history is anything to go by then, the Italians should make light work of United. However, Milan should not make the mistake of underestimating United. Milan last won this prestigious tournament in 2007 and just a year later, United were crowned champions. United are in excellent form and are currently in position 2 in the EPL.

Wayne RooneyWhen the Champions League draw was made back in December, Milan were riding high on a long unbeaten run and Manchester United were struggling to get four fit defenders. At that time, this looked like a good draw for Milan and I thought they have a good chance to knock off Man Utd.

We times have changed. The Milan team is aging before our eyes, Manchester United have fit defenders and Wayne Rooney is playing like the best player in Europe. This tie looks very different now.

AS Roma kept up the pressure for 2nd spot on AC Milan after beating Palermo 4-1 yesterday in one of the only two league matches played on Saturday. The “marauding Romans”, reclaimed 2nd spot thanks to a brace from Brighi and two goals from Riise and Baptista.

Milan who had  on Friday beaten Udinese 3-2 to to Pip Roma to 2nd spot will now have to turn their minds to a crucial Champions League knockout fixture against Manchester United on Tuesday. The rossoneri buoyed by the return to form of their star Ronaldinho, will be keen on securing a victory to keep them in the hunt for the only other trophy they can possibly win.

Ghanaian goal scoring machine Dominic Adiyiah has been issued with a work permit by the Italian  embassy in his home city of Accra allowing him to become elligible to play for Milan.

Adiyiah who led his team the Black Satellites of Ghana to a victorious maiden U-20 world cup win back in September also doubled up as the tournament’s top scorer and was quickly signed by Italian giants Milan.

Adiyiah will now have the pleasure of playing with some of the world’s biggest stars when he prepares  for his first training session today.
